'View' insiders have mixed feelings on Meghan McCain likening herself to Meghan Markle
During Monday's taping of "The View" McCain likened her experience on the show to Meghan Markle's experience with the British royal family. Naturally, her comments were not received with open arms.
If you're among the few individuals who hasn't already watched the explosive Meghan Markle interview with Oprah Winfrey, understand this article may contain spoilers. By now, the interview, which aired on CBS Sunday night, has made its rounds on every talk show and media outlet, with everyone having their own opinion on it.
One individual receiving backlash for her own opinion is "The View" co-host, Meghan McCain.
During Monday's taping of "The View" McCain likened her experience on the show to Meghan Markle's experience with the British royal family. Naturally, her comments were not received with open arms.
"In no way am I comparing any of my life experiences to Meghan Markle … but, I do know what it's like to be on a TV show or a political campaign where people are leaking stories about you with the sole intention to make you look bad, and let me tell you, it would do a number on your mental health like you wouldn't believe. It will make you feel isolated. It will make you feel paranoid," said McCain.

While McCain specifically expressed she wasn't comparing her experience to The Duchess of Sussex, that didn't stop insiders at the show from mocking her.
"The only thing they have in common is their name … If the staff and producers liked you, those stories wouldn't be getting out," an insider told PageSix. "You don't see them getting out about anyone else. No one's running around talking about [co-host] Whoopi [Goldberg]. It's shocking how [McCain] behaves. If she doesn't want things leaked, don't do things to get leaked."
Ouch.
During the interview, the Duchess of Sussex also revealed her struggles with mental health, saying she suffered from suicidal thoughts after marrying into the British royal family. The revelation came after Meghan highlighted a photo a friend sent her of her and Harry at a Cirque de Soleil performance at London's Royal Albert Hall in January 2019.
"And I zoomed in, and what I saw was the truth of what that moment was. Because right before we had to leave for that, I had just had that conversation with Harry that morning," Meghan mentioned to Oprah. In addition, Meghan mentioned that Harry initially tried to persuade her not to go to the event, but she insisted after explaining to Harry she "can't be left alone."
McCain, who is the daughter of the late Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) expressed she's never contemplated suicide, but understands the impact of the media, and how gossip can affect someone's mental wellbeing.

"I've never been in a place where I've contemplated suicide, thank God," McCain said. "But I do think when you're in places ― whether it be work or a family like the royal family ― and you are not protected and people are trafficking in gossip with the intention to make you look bad and hurt your reputation, I can see how they felt like there was no other option for them and their family to put them in a safe space specifically when she was pregnant and she had a new, young child."
In addition, McCain also took to Twitter and criticized the idea of a monarchy, referring to the concept as "archaic and toxic."
"Monarchy has been an archaic and toxic concept since 1776," McCain wrote alongside a clip of Lin-Manuel Miranda in "Hamilton," which depicts the story of Alexander Hamilton and is set during the American Revolution.
